At the end of last year, I was asked to organise a 1920s speakeasy-themed party for a joint birthday. We got our great marquee guys Inside Outside to build a fantastic lined marquee over the entire back garden and create a stage with a gold, glittery backdrop to mimic that of a 1920s club. I took inspiration from Ronnie Scott’s in Soho to give that secluded, intimate atmosphere.
We had the catering done by Too Many Cooks, who serving lots of tasty canapes. Our waiters were dressed accordingly and a gorgeous vintage 1920s Ford car was parked outside offering a taxi service for the guests. All the guests arrived in the amazing outfits and drank a gin cocktail – Southside Fizz – served in our vintage teacups in “the library” before being ushered through into the “club” where champagne was served in coupes. The music was by JazzDynamos and later, Fitzherbert discos brought us bang up to date with a mix of classics, old and new.
